English Language Learners
The goal of the ELL program is to teach students the English language so that they are better equipped to get a job, to become successful members of their communities and to have a better future in their new country.
Classes take place Mondays through Thursdays in the morning, afternoon and evening at the Family Learning Center. The curriculum stresses competencies in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students’ progress is assessed according to the National Reporting System (NRS), which has six levels of competencies, learning objectives and performance standards.
Approximately 300 students are served each year.
All Journey House instructors are certified by the state of Wisconsin or the Wisconsin Technical College system.
