Adult Basic Skills/GED Program

Journey House offers Basic Skills/GED (General Education Development) Classes for adults who are 18 and older, in the mornings, afternoons and evenings. These classes are provided in conjunction with MATC, and Journey House has been a delegate agency of MATC since 1969. We prepare our students in a group setting to improve their reading and math skills so they will be successful at passing the GED tests. In order to obtain a GED student needs to pass 5 tests which are: reading, social studies, science, writing, and math. If you want a HSED (high school equivalency diploma) you need to take an additional health and civics test.

Our classes are taught by experienced teachers who are state certified through the vocational technical college system. Our students have access to current materials, and technology which help them in their test preparation. There is also tutoring help from volunteers through area colleges and the Milwaukee community.

If you are interested in participating in our program you are asked to call the school at 414-389-5080, extension 2221 and speak to Rosa. You must sign up for an orientation and testing session before you are assigned to a class.

The orientations are at 4:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You must register for the session.

The dates for the next orientations are:

            Tuesday, April 1, 2008 - GED orientation

            Thursday, April 3, 2008 - GED testing

Register today by calling (414) 389-5080 extension 2221!!
